The Best AI Home Exterior Design Apps in 2026, Compared
Four tools for previewing an exterior remodel compared: AI photo remodels, the free Sherwin-Williams visualizer, and the pro-grade HOVER. What each really does and costs.
Exterior decisions are the least forgiving in home improvement: a repaint runs $3,000 to $7,000, new siding five figures, and the result greets you (and the whole street) daily. The tools for previewing those decisions split into three tiers: AI remodelers that redesign a street photo of your house, free paint visualizers from the paint brands themselves, and professional measurement platforms. Here is what each actually does, so you use the right one for the size of your decision.

1. RemodelHome: the whole-exterior preview

The paint giant’s web visualizer lets you upload a photo of your house and paint it with any of about 1,700 real Sherwin-Williams shades, free, in the browser, without an account; the ColorSnap mobile app adds AR and color matching from real-world objects. When the decision is specifically "which of these three named colors", nothing beats previewing the exact SKU you would buy. Its limit is its scope: colors only, on the surfaces you tap. It will not swap siding profiles or add a porch.
3. HOVER: the professional-grade option
HOVER turns a few phone photos into a measured 3D model of your house, previews real branded materials on it, and outputs measurement-accurate material lists: which is why 300,000+ construction professionals use it for quoting. Homeowners typically touch it when a contractor or insurer invites them into a project. If your remodel is at the signed-contract stage, ask your contractor if they quote through HOVER: the measurements remove the padding from bids.
4. The 3D planners, for completeness

That is the right tool when you are designing a build from scratch, and the slow tool when you just want to see your existing house looking different: rebuilding your real house as a 3D model takes hours that a photo-based tool skips entirely.
